Our History

Emmanuel Baptist Church began as a mission of Highland Baptist Church of Shelbyville, Kentucky. The mission was organized to help meet religious, educational, and charitable needs of the community.

After several years as a mission, Highland Baptist Church in a business session voted to recognize the mission as a sister Southern Baptist church under the name Emmanuel Baptist Church of Shelbyville, Kentucky. On July 1, 2004, Emmanuel became a self-supporting church and has since obtained certification of incorporation.

Emmanuel held its activities in a VFW building for several years before moving into its first building on July 27, 2008. The building was constructed by volunteer workers coordinated by Joshualand Ministries of Brandon, Florida.

Activities of the church include Bible study and worship on Sundays and a prayer service on Wednesdays. The church seeks to provide programs for all ages and to persons from various cultures, races, and economic backgrounds.

Emmanuel is presently a member of the Shelby Baptist Association, the Kentucky Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention.
