Building Blog

Welcome to the EBC Building Blog

July 28, 2008
We finally made it into the new building. Yesterday was a great success, and there was an atmosphere of excitement in both the morning service and the afternoon dedication service. We hope to have photos of the building up very soon on this website. Thanks to God for all his grace upon us.

July 21, 2008
Yesterday was our last Sunday service in the VFW building. It's hard to believe that we're going to move into the new building next Sunday. Please pray this week that we will complete all the finishing touches on the building and that we will pass all of our inspections. If you're in Shelbyville, please tell Chris Wurzel how much you appreciate all his hard work on this project. God has really used him to bless our church. Baptist Press, the news service of the Southern Baptist Convention, wrote a story last week about Chris's ministry. You can read it at the Baptist Press website: http://www.bpnews.net/BPnews.asp?ID=28498

We're still on schedule to have church dedication in the new building Sunday, July 27. If you're in Shelbyville and would like to help us, we need to move the piano and chairs from the VFW to our new building during the week prior to church dedication. Anyone wishing to volunteer should contact us through this website. As for the status of the building, we're getting very close. This week some of the finishing touches are happening at the construction site. Please continue to pray for Chris Wurzel, our project coordinator. Ask the Lord to provide him with wisdom and strength as he concludes a long summer of service.

Can you believe it? There are just two Sundays left in the VFW building before we move to our very own church building. Currently workers are finishing the drywall and preparing to finish other details in the inside of the building. Please pray for Chris Wurzel, Joshualand Ministries, all the workers, and our congregation during these final weeks of construction.

Yesterday gave all of us at Emmanuel great hope for the future. We met in the new building for the first time (even though it isn't finished yet) and talked about how we're going to use the building to reach our community. Worship services, Sunday School, Wednesday nights and many other aspects of church life are going to be even better in the days ahead. If you're not already a part of Emmanuel, please consider visiting us to check out the excitement.

Next Sunday is a big day for our church. We're going to meet in the new building for the very first time. It's not finished yet, but our congregation will gather in the nearly completed building for worship and a town hall meeting about our future. We will discuss what ministries we need to start and what logistical changes we need to make in order to use our new building with maximum effectiveness to reach Shelbyville for Christ. If you can, please join us for this time of worship and brainstorming Sunday, June 29, at 10:30 a.m.

Things are getting exciting at Emmanuel. Our building is taking shape as Chris and the volunteer workers have completed the outside and are now working on the inside. We're on schedule to move in July 27. We're especially thankful to the dozens of workers who have donated their summer vacation time to help us build this building. Currently we're in the process of planning how we can use this building most effectively to advance God's Kingdom.

May 27, 2008
If you visit the building site this week, you'll find that our building is starting to look a lot more like a building. It's framing week, and a very gracious crew of workers plan to have walls and a roof up by the end of the week. Please be in prayer for us and check out the building site if you can. The address is 2388 Burks Branch Rd.

May 5, 2008
The foundation is complete, and we're so thankful to the workers who came into town and gave their time and talents to help us. During the next two weeks we will be preparing for the crews to come in and do framing the week of May 19. Please continue to pray for us, Chris Wurzel and all of the workers coming to help us.

April 28, 2008
We're a week into construction now, and everyone is excited about what God is doing. This week we're scheduled to put in the foundation. Check back regularly for updates because things will move fast from this point forward. Also, please pray that we will be granted a full and final building permit soon.

April 21, 2008
It's finally here! Today is the official start of construction on our new building -- although Chris and his team of volunteers already accomplished significant work last week. Yesterday the members of Emmanuel went to the church site for a land dedication service, and we were able to see the hole where the foundation of our new building will sit. Please continue your prayers for our church, but also praise God that He's allowed us to reach such a significant milestone for our congregation.

April 7, 2008
Chris Wurzel of Joshualand Ministries will arrive in Shelbyville this week, and construction looks like it will begin ahead of schedule. All our permits are coming through, so please pray that things continue to move ahead smoothly.

March 31, 2008
After praying yesterday for our building permit to come through, God answered this morning. We were granted a partial building permit and expect to be granted a full permit after we clear up a few additional matters. The Lord is working, and we will continue praying that all stays on track for us to break ground April 21.

Feb. 17, 2008
Last week, Chris Wurzel of Joshualand Ministries stopped in Shelbyville to make sure we're on track with all of our preparations for construction. It's looks like we're right on schedule to start the building project on April 21. We received our conditional use permit for the land, and now we're in the process of securing all the other permits we're required to have.

Today at church we voted on what color brick we want on the building. It won't be long before you can see that brick for yourself on the outside of our new church building. We plan to hold a land dedication ceremony on Sunday, April 20.

Jan. 7, 2008
We now have the final building plans from our architect and are ready to move ahead. The next step for Emmanuel is to obtain a conditional use permit from the zoning board at its January meeting. A local engineering firm is developing a site plan for us and making sure our application meets zoning board requirements.

Chris Wurzel of Joshualand Ministries informs us that volunteer recruitment for construction this summer is coming along well and that we only lack people to help with the foundation.

Dec. 27, 2007
In the special called business meeting we voted to build the new church building with brick. Currently we are attempting to secure permits for the construction project and waiting to receive final building plans from the architect.

Nov. 25, 2007
We will have a special called business meeting next Sunday, Dec. 2, to decide whether our church will have siding or brick. The meeting will take into account information we gather this week about the cost and feasibility of bricking the building. All members should make plans to attend.

An architect has drawn up floor plans and a site plan for our new church building, and Chris Wurzel is working with him to make final adjustments. We should see the plans soon, and we're preparing to file for a conditional use permit with the planning and zoning commission in January. In the coming months we will also be filing for a zoning permit, a driveway permit, a septic permit and a building permit.

Please remember the $50,000 goal for our building fund, which will help pay for materials to construct the new church.

Nov. 5, 2007
We have plans to build our congregation's first building beginning in April 2008. Our location will be at the corner of Burks Branch Road and the new bypass. Joshualand Ministries of Brandon Fla., will be providing the labor, and we're currently in a campaign to raise funds for the building. Check this blog regularly for updates on our building progress.
